Metformin & Gliclazide is the combination of two oral antihyperglycemic products which is used to cure Type-2 diabetes (Non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus). Metformin belongs to the Biguanides class & Gliclazide belongs to the sulfonylurea class.

Mechanism of Action

Gliclazide & Metformin acts ac reducing the blood sugar level that is glucose released from the liver (which increases in diabetes) & this combination stimulates the secretion of insulin from the pancreatic beta cells & Inhibits Platelet Aggregation.

Bioavailability of Metformin-50-60%

Duration of action- approx. 12 hours 

Protein-Binding of Metformin-negligible bound to plasma protein 

Protein-Binding of Gliclazide: 94%

Elimination- 10-12 hours 

A half-life of Metformin-6.2 hours  

A half-life of Gliclazide-10.4 hours 

Pharmacological Uses

The combination of these two Antidiabetic products are used in the treatment of type-2 diabetes (Non-insulin dependent), Control blood sugar level which prevents Kidney damage, Blindness, Nerve problems & Sexual function problems & Loss of limbs.

The combination may interact with 

Alcohol (causes nausea & flushing)

Salicylates, Phenylbutazone, Clofibrate, Sulphonamides, Oral Anticoagulants and MAOIs (increase the effect)

Rifampicin, Barbiturates, Alcohol, Diuretics, Diazoxide, Corticosteroids, Β-Blockers, Oestrogens (decrease the effect)
