Cefpodoxime is a Third- Generation Cephalosporin antibiotic & Potassium Clavulanate or Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactam antibiotic. The motive for the formulation of this combination is that these are not effective individually as an antibiotic. Clavulanic acid enhances his antibiotic nature when combined with Penicillin group antibiotics.

Mechanism of action
The combination possesses bactericidal activity. Cefpodoxime inhibits the bacteria’s cell wall biosynthesis to stop the growth of bacteria & to reduce the development of product-resistant bacteria & Clavulanic acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor & has a similar structure as that of penicillin.
